【Fenchihu Station】
Located in Chiayi County, Taiwan, Fenchihu is located 1400 meters above sea level and was once a refuel middle stop for the old Alishan forest trains. It is now a stop for travelers to take a rest on the way to Alishan Forest Recreation Area. Houses in Fenchihu are built accordance to hill slopes with a 500-meter long old street below the train station. Ahead of the developments of Alishan railway and roads, various shops and vendors had settled around this area, Fenchihu is considered as an old century street and various restaurants and souvenir shops can be found here. Due to the prosperity of tourism in Fenchihu, this old street with the highest elevation in Taiwan has become one of the must-see attractions when traveling to Alishan.
【Alishan Scenic Area】Alishan is very famous for the sunrise view and the cloud ocean. The clouds are so dense and thick that the mountaintops appear like islands on the cloud ocean. The best time to watch the cloud season is autumn and visitors can go to Ziyun Temple, Alishan Hotel, Alishan Rail Station, Zaoping Park and the first parking lot.
【YUYUPAS】 Yuyupas is an indigenous cultural park dedicated to the Tsou tribe located in Alisha, Chiayi County. The name ‘Yuyupas’ means rich and safe in Tsou. Numbering barely 5,000, the Tsou, are one of the native ethnic groups in Taiwan. Covering an area of about two hectares, Yuyupas is located at about 1,200 meters above sea level in the mountainous Alishan area and is surrounded by extensive tea gardens. Yuyupas offers various cultural elements such as Tsou food, local tea and coffee products, performances, as well as leather crafts produced by Tsou tribes.
【Sun Moon Lake】The Sun Moon Lake, located in the middle of Taiwan, with an elevation of 748 meters above sea level, is the only natural big lake in Taiwan. The southern part of Lalu Island is shaped like a new moon, and the northern part is shaped like a sun; hence the name Sun Moon Lake.
【Qingjing Farm】The 1.2km-long Qhingjing High-altitude Scenic Trail is located at 1,700-2,000 meters above the sea level. It is the longest and highest-altitude trail in Taiwan. Along the path are scenic platforms which provide visitors with birds-eye views of the Central Mountain Ridge, Qilai Mountain and more. Taking a stroll among the crown layer of the trees, visitors can also expect to look at the beautiful Qingjing area panoramically.
【Goang Xing Paper Mill】Mr. Huang Yaotung established the Guang Xing Paper Processing Workshop in 1965, where he dedicated his work in developing and improving the quality of paper. In 1973, the workshop was renamed “Guang Xing Paper Mill”. In 1991, Mr Huang successfully developed the high quality handmade Hsuan (Chinese calligraphy) paper. Visits to the Guang Xing Paper Mill must be booked in advance in order to appreciate the process of papermaking; visitors can even experience the fun of individual papermaking steps such as paper formation, paper pressing, paper drying and rubbing etc.
